You made a good point when you mentioned an image map's effects on SEO. That has been my biggest concern in using them is how the search engines will handle the map. In the end, I decided to play it safe and avoid image maps altogether.

Hi there,
I kind of get what your saying about creating an image map, but I'm a little confused on the following line:

"Edit your image, create your links map, and for the link, use the URL you just copied from the (temporary) text links."

You use the URL from the "temporary" text links???? You lost me.

Thanks,
Judy

Hi,
I installed everything properly.
Though I can't manage to put a link when I map my image. I mean that I put the link of my article in the "href" section in the format: "index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46", but then when I preview it... nothing. I do it for all the 6 areas, and othin happens, I think I did something wrong, or that I miss something, but I don't know what...
Do you see where my problem could be ?
Thank you

Well, indeed your case is close to what I explain.

So first, you'll have to install the component for the map.
Second, you'll have to find what are the links of your target pages. It could be easily done using the search feature on your joomla frontoffice ( publish the search module for a while, then unpublish it if you don't want it).
Then, edit your image while editing your article, and copy the links you've found with the search.

Hope these three basic steps will help. Let me know...

Just to add that my main pic would be the only one on the frontpage... Then everything would be link to it, so i don't need menu buttons... It's even simplier I guess =)

Hi,

Thanks for the tips !
I was looking for that (I'm not in front of my joomla righ now, I'm at work) and it starts to get to me, because I can't find a way to map my pic!
But actually, I'm a Joomla beginner, so I don't really get your explanations sorry =( but maybe you could help me a bit though!
So basically, I have 7 pages for my website (that's it), the main page is a pic. Then I want to create 6 clickable areas (similar size), each of them will link to one of the 6 page and... that's pretty it!
i know it sounds really simple and I bet it is... But I just don't find the way to do it by using Joomla... I add my pic, then what? Do I need to use an image mapper which is not a joomla extension, then integrate it?
Do i need a special extension or should I use a native Joomla feature I missed?

Well, as you can read I'm lost! So if you could help me on that, I would REALLY appreciate it !

Thanks in advance
