If you are using Facebook Ads, chances are that you are simply using the conversion pixel and standard events to optimize your bids. But in complexe scenarios, you cannot use live events, and you need to switch to Offline events instead.

I recently had to help implementing Facebook Offline Events in a PHP environment. The client that needed to have offline events was an online retailer selling expensive products. He couldn’t simply accept online orders, he also needed to verify each single one before sending the purchase. Their internal workflow was designed in this way to avoid frauds. In addition to that, as products are expensive, purchasing with a credit card could lead to payment issues with banks. So most customers like to purchase via bank transfers instead.

Whenever someone purchased a lesson, s/he was redirected to an URL similar to the following:

I love lead magnets and content upgrades. The idea that a reader could download a special content (a spreadsheet, an ebook, a pdf version of a post, …) in exchange of her email is really appealing. No need to beg with a pop up or with an interstitial.

In this post, I’ll share with you the (simple) framework I am using on WordPress to gate content (ask for an email in exchange of a special content). What’s unique with this framework is that all tools/plugins are free! That’s surprising, but it’s very difficult to find a free solution to do that on WordPress. Usually you will either need a Premium plugin or a paid subscription to an email service.

Protecting intellectual property in a digital world is tricky. I know that perfectly well since I have always tried to reverse engineer applications or online services other created. I had a lot of fun while learning how to crack software 15 years ago. Later I realized how easy it was to cheat on Flash games and spent some time cracking online contests just for distraction.

More recently, when I tried to create a startup called WordiZ.it, I spent some time doing some reverse engineering on Google+ API, to discover hidden data. This attraction to the dark side had a bad ending in the case of WordiZ. Since I started to build upon a non-maintained stream of Data, any change from Google meant I had to work lots of hours to find a new way to collect data. Eventually, Google stopped providing it completely, and my first startup idea became irrelevant in one day.

Lambda is one of the many services offered by Amazon Web Services (AWS in short). The tool was built to help developers who need to frequently run small easy tasks, and don’t need a dedicated server (and all the fuss that goes with it) to perform them.

For each new task, Lambda will spawn an EC2 instance and run your task on it. The billing is made relatively to the RAM you allocated to the task, and the time it took to perform. Hugo is a tool that I have been using for one year for generating static websites. On the contrary to dynamic websites which have a database, static websites are only made of HTML, JS and CSS. There is no scripts executed on the backend (php, python, ruby) and everything is static. Google’s decision took many people by surprise, and I was very sad the day George Muller announced it on Google+.

I started to blog 11 years ago. The first blog system i used, was Dotclear, I moved to Wordpress few years after because of the large plugin and theme ressources available. Wordpress is a really good blog platform, but it updates itslef too often for me.

Few months ago, the blog moved to Ghost, a really minimalist blog system, based on nodejs. A KISS aproach to the blog, I falled in love. The only issue i had with Ghost was about the hosting dependencies, no hard to manage, but since i don’t master nodeJs, i spent too much hours to hack into.

Je vais sans doute proposer une suite de tutoriels pour vous expliquer en français comment installer tel ou tel CMS sur la plateforme. Il faut savoir que Webfaction est un hébergeur dont le support technique est le plus rapide que je connaisse, mais qu’il souffre pour le moment d’une lacune de taille pour le marché français : la doc et le support est en anglais. Par contre, j’ai pu discuter avec le dirigeant de la société, et il se pourrait que cela change si la clientèle française dépasse une certaine taille critique. Avis aux intéressés {{}}

Je reprends la plume délaissée depuis un certain temps pour vous présenter un évènement auquel je viens d’assister à Marseille. Il s’agit du Web In Provence , un apéro networking dédié aux acteur du web en … Provence. L’idée était d’associer un apéro avec une conférence sur une tendance montante d’internet. Pour cette première édition, les organisateurs (Florent Hernandez et Alexandre Durain) avaient choisi comme thème le “Conception Web et Multi Device” . L’invité de cet conférence était Stéphane Martin senior product designer chez Stack Overflow/Stack Exchange (la plateforme de questions/réponses dédiée aux programmeurs créé par Jeff Atwood).

Usually you can activate the “trusted mode” to have this wysiwyg editor. But you will also have several other fields which are too much for normal users. En effet, au lieu de vous afficher des lettres tordues à déchiffrer ou un calcul à résoudre, il s’agit là de regarder un petit spot vidéo dans lequel un message publicitaire passe. Votre mission? When you want to use a Matlab script to perform simulations with Comsol, a remote server is often used. This post is a quick note to help you creating matlab scripts that would be run on a remote server.

The strategy is the following. We will use the nohup command to let the server do the simulations while we will turn off our computer. Without the nohup, turning off your computer would result in breaking the ssh connexion, and thus, the matlab/comsol processes that were running. Another solution could have been the use of the command screen.

After my last post about ‘getting the scattered far field using ComsolRF module ‘ a bunch of problems appeared. Actually, the definition of the incident field, using a line of current is wrong. It prevent the PML to work nicely, and thus, the overall field (and of course the scattered field) will be wrong.

To correct this behaviour, one should first start a problem by using the Scattered Formalism Equation Resolution. If you already have your setup, just go to Physics > Properties and change the Field Type to ‘Scattered xxxxx waves’ (where xxxxx is your polarization system : TE, TM or hybrid).

Voici un titre plutôt vague pour introduire un sujet qui me tient assez à coeur depuis une demi douzaine d’année. En effet, peu de gens savent que la répartition “azerty” d’un clavier français n’a rien à voir avec une optimisation quelconque pour améliorer la frappe. Au contraire, il s’agit d’une configuration pour la ralentir, enfin presque, car en réalité il s’agit d’une adaptation française du clavier anglo-saxon “qwerty”.

L’histoire du clavier “qwerty” remonte au XIXème siècle lors de l’invention des première machines à écrire. Les utilisateurs tapaient trop vite, et les tiges des touches contiguës se bloquaient régulièrement. Ainsi, pour éviter cela, une répartition séparant le plus possible les touches usuelles, et ralentissant la frappe a été mise au point : le qwerty!Afin de s’adapter au marché français, on en a fait de même avec notre répartition azerty. Classicaly, finding the value of $$a$$ will take n-1 steps. With the quantum version (Grover’s Algorithm) it takes only $$\sqrt{n}$$ steps.
